Terms of use

Last updated: 3 November 2026.

OpenScreen is a free, open-source screen recorder and video editor. These terms cover the desktop app, the MCP server, the agent plugin and this website, getopenscreen.com.

Who provides OpenScreen

OpenScreen is maintained by Etienne Lescot, in France, with its contributors. Contact: privacy@getopenscreen.com, or an issue on GitHub. The source code lives at github.com/getopenscreen/openscreen.

The license

The software is released under the MIT license. You can use it for free, for any purpose, commercial use included, and copy, modify and redistribute it under that license. There is no account, no paid tier and no watermark.

No warranty

As the MIT license states, the software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Keep copies of recordings and projects that matter to you. To the extent the law allows, the maintainers are not liable for any loss arising from its use.

Your content

Your recordings, projects and exports are yours. They stay on your computer, and OpenScreen claims no right over them. You are responsible for what you record and publish, and for having the right to record the people, screens and sounds it contains.

Third-party services

Some features rely on services you choose to use, such as an AI provider you connect with your own API key, or GitHub for updates. Those services apply their own terms. What leaves your machine is described in the privacy policy.

Official downloads

Download OpenScreen only from this website, the GitHub releases, the Microsoft Store or the package managers listed in the documentation. Builds from elsewhere are not ours.

Changes

These terms change when the way OpenScreen is offered changes. The date at the top shows the last change, and the page's history shows every edit. They are governed by French law.
